How the cost of hospital care
drives up the cost of having a baby

In normal childbirths, where no special hospital care is needed, your doctor bill will be about 30% of your maternity.

Your Lab bills will be about 10% of the total if you don't need extensive medical lab studies done.

In normal childbirths, your hospital bill will be about 60% of your total cost. If there are complications and you or your baby require a longer hospital stay, the hospital percentage could increase. In that case, this chart would show a smaller percentage of the total cost going to doctor and lab bills because the hospital portion would be shown — and remain — a greater percentage of the whole cost.
